Yogi Bear (2010)

I'm not going to claim that this destroyed my childhood. Mostly becauseI've always hated Yogi Bear. He's a terrible character. He's stupid, arrogant, and very selfish. He has, and never will have, any redeemingfeatures. All he does is infuriate those around him. The film ingeneral is also an abomination. Kids films don't have to be smart oremotional, just entertaining. This film is stuck in a comedicblackhole. Jokes about farts and poo! HAHA! Bears dancing toSir-Mix-A-Lot? Really? That song is still funny? Wasn't it overused inFriends and Shrek years ago? Did Yogi Bear EVER dance? The plot istypical, but also adds pointless 3D effects. This is also probably whythe film is unbearably bright. Watching it in 2D is even more painful.Yogi and BooBoo just don't fit in with their surroundings. They didn'thave to look real. But their interactions with the real world did, likeWho Framed Roger Rabbit?! The actors don't even look like they know howto hug thin air. A big problem in such a movie. This is a miss on somany levels.

Very fun title - possibly the best 3D Blu-Ray out there?

I'll actually start off by saying I'm not a big fan of Yogi Bear. Being almost 30, I remember watching it as a kid and finding it 'tolerable', but I was always more into the other cartoons than this one.I decided to give this movie a chance simply because it was a 3D title (not too many are available currently) and it was on sale (not too many go on sale!). I watched the trailer and found it to look interesting, but didn't have too high of hopes for it.Fortunately, this movie turned out to be very enjoyable and a lot of fun! It really seems like it would be enjoyable for kids, while also appealing to adults (I was cracking up throughout the movie, which is rare for these types of films!). I won't go into the plot as I don't want to spoil too much - I will say that the story is pretty generic and very predictable (not to mention just about every twist was easily seen, but you have to remember it's made for kids).I'll also say that the movies runtime - 80 minutes - really worked for it. So many times, movies tend to drag on and go for a 100-120 minute runtime and end up including many unnecessary scenes; Yogi Bear kept the story moving fast and didn't have those moments. The majority of the cast was very good - the only complaint I had was T.J. Miller ("Hud" from Cloverfield) who plays the same Head Rangers' assistant/ranger. His parts were pretty bad, and I think would be much better with a different actor. The rest were all very good.Yogi Bear and Boo Boo are CG - everyone else is "live action"; I think both were done VERY well and have great detail (much better than the Scooby-Doo movies from years ago). The CG and Live action blend very well and it's very convincing (though the CG won't have you thinking it's real, it's not supposed to)But the best part of all was the 3D -- note that this is only on the 3D Blu-Ray (and requires a 3DTV). Filmed natively with 3D cameras, this one really shows off nicely; there is not only great depth throughout, but there are some of the best "pop out" moments I've seen (both the quick 1-second ones, as well as some longer shots (including a fantastic slow-motion one at the beginning)), and they come regularly during the movie. This is MUCH better than the converted movies (shot in 2D, converted to 3D) and looks amazing.Besides the popouts, the backgrounds look amazing (shot at "Jellystone", so you get lots of nice scenery with trees/greenery/waterfalls). Video quality (2D and 3D) looks fantastic - very colorful, sharp and little image noise/film grain, even in the indoor environments. Video is in 1.85:1 (which is also known to some as "almost fullscreen" on an HDTV - very small bars at the top/bottom)Audio Quality is also very nice - presented in DTS-HDMA 5.1Extras were also a nice surprise - the 3D disc includes them all in HD and in 3D! There's also a short cartoon (Rabid Racer) presented in 3D/HD which looks fantastic! I wish more titles would do this. This set is presented as 3 discs - a Blu-Ray 3D, a Blu-Ray 2D and a DVD/DigitalCopy. The DigitalCopy is iTunes Compatible (not ultraviolet) which was very nice.Lastly, the set includes a lenticular (3D / "Magic motion" slipcover) which is a nice bonus.Overall - I wasn't expecting much, but I was very surprised. I loved the movie (despite it's flaws), but a lot of that was because it was in 3D and looked fantastic. In 2D I would still enjoy it, but this is one of those titles that really shines in 3D and makes it a more enjoyable film.Highly recommended!

more for kids

I thought this movie was silly, but it is targeted for a younger agegroup. 10 year olds would probably think it's great. First you have todeal with the fact that no one seems to think it is strange that youhave 2 talking bears that are keen on stealing picnic baskets. Why,right there is your exhibit to attract tourists, but the movie acts asif this is nothing unusual, so it takes an endangered animal to bringthe backpackers. Anna Faris is cool in this. I also liked Ranger Jones, the not so bright guy.The film had several cute scenes, but it was just more for kids.FINAL VERDICT: Nothing to see unless kids are going to watch it.

Genial but instantly forgettable, Yogi Bear takes the beloved Hanna-Barbera character and shoehorns him into an all-too-familiar kids' movie.

Yogi Bear Awesome

This review is from: Yogi Bear (Blu-ray 3D) (Blu-ray) Fantastic show, reminds me of the old yogi bear series, all characters were authentic, and the 3D effects were especially fantastic. I feel that 3D, is the only way to view a movie now.Great value for money

Adult chaperone who drew the short straw? You can settle in for an 82 minute nap. Sounds good, right?

The relative lack of coarseness and snark may come as a surprising relief, even to 21st-century audiences.

Little Boo Boos might giggle at the slapstick, but most folks over the age of 5 will find the tired plot and lame jokes unbearable.

The negative reviews on this movie are funny

So your stepping into a movie titled Yogi Bear and you honestly had high enough expectations to give this movie a bad review? For all those saying "loved the cartoon, hated the movie" are you serious? Go back and re-watch the cartoons. This is a bad movie based on a bad cartoon. The cartoons are just as bad if not worse. (I don't think anything could be worse than Marmaduke... but that's different review). Now on with the review; my kids love the cartoons and they love the movie. It's a fun movie for kids and family. Personally I think Justin Timberlake did an amazing job with boo-boo's voice (near believable of the original boo-boo).... and then Dan Aykroyd... eh, he could have done better. It's not a movie I personally would look forward to watching again, but a good recommendation for kids.

Besides the fire works disaster that followed Yogi's stunt, what could prevent Ranger Smith from making Yogi the attraction that saves the park? Inquiring minds sort of wonder.

If NC-17 is going to stick around, I propose its counterpart at the other end of the spectrum: A rating to protect prospective viewers from films that are only for very childish children.

The everyday mans review

I was a fan of the H-B cartoon growing up, and with some of the cast of the movies, I thought they would pull it together. I brought my son who will be 3 years old next month with me. And halfway through he said he was bored and wanted to go home. We stayed and finished the movie, but there is very little to related to the cartoon, and next to no comic humor for any age group. Like all childrens movies, it has a good moral in the end, but its not worth the price of admission. Wait till it comes out on dvd or blu-ray before you spend any money on it.

Yogi Bear 3 Disc Combo

This review is from: Yogi Bear (Blu-ray 3D) (Blu-ray) The movie was an okay movie. Nothing special. I bought it because it was 3D and I thought my grandchildren might enjoy it. I know they liked the movie but not overwhelmingly so. Still nice to have around to look at with the kids.

Bad Actors and not enough Yogi

Well, I rated this a 2 out of 10 because for starters, the actors andactress in this movie are terrible. The movie poorly written and theynot exactly centered around the main man yogi. As a yogi fan when I waslittle, I was very disappointed. The movie simply does not do justiceto a great and very memorable cartoon character. If W. Hanna and J.Barbera were alive, this movie would have never hit the market. I betthey are both rolling over in their grave. I know I am older, but Istill enjoy good animation such as Toy Story 3, Shreek, Despicable meand so on. This is not truly a family move because the only ones in thefamily who could possible enjoy this would have to be 6 and under.Heck, the movie will be lucky to gain any true young fans. It will beinterested to see how the DVD sells.
