Andy.....you GOONIE!!!!!!!!The Goonies is a wonderfully enthusiastic, funny and engaging film thatI absolutely adored when I was younger; I really wanted to go on anadventure like these kids did! Here we have the story of a bunch ofkids who are seemingly destined to be chucked out of their homes whenthey find a map telling them of nearby treasure, inspiring them to tryand find it, despite frightening odds and deadly competition in theform of the bungling, evil Fratelli family...What's great about this film is that it unfolds leisurely and takes thetime to really build up the excitement. The Goonies don't even enterthe underground world until about 45 minutes into the film, but thebuild-up is so brilliantly done that it doesn't matter. In the earlyscenes, the sense of discovery, adventure, danger and mystery iswonderfully conveyed; it just takes me back to when I was a child too.The characters here are great; OK, so Mikey's the dull one, butsomeone's got to be the straight guy when your mates are as silly asthese guys. There's Mouth, who spends most of his time perfecting hishair and joking about, Chunk just wants to eat all the time and Data'sinventions are usually more of a hazard than a benefit (though they doend up being pretty useful later on!). Mikey's older brother Brand justwants to make sure the house is tidy for when their mum gets back, while Andy just screams all the time and Stef can't believe how she gotcaught up in all of this silliness.Delightfully, these kids are little brats, though likeably so; theyswear a lot, make a mess and get in trouble more often than necessary. They also talk and act with such restless enthusiasm that you mightneed to turn on the subtitles on the DVD just to work out what they'resaying! Still, I like this; their over-excitedness makes theirpredicament feel all the more natural; you really believe that thesekids are having the best adventure of their lives. Despite theirbrattishness, they're good kids at heart; saying that, you might wantto fast-forward through Mikey's 'it's OUR time, down here!' speech! TheFratelli's are a fun trio of villains; Robert Davi and Joe Pantolianomake for a fun double-act, while Anne Ramsey is pretty menacing astheir mum, be it her threats to cut of Mouth's tongue with a knife orturning Chunk's hand to goo in a blender. Of course, there's alsoSloth, the disfigured third brother of the Fratelli's, who is cruellyimprisoned by his family but eventually finds a new friend in Chunk.Ah, bless! Once the kids enter the catacombs of danger, the actiondoesn't let up at all, with the film playing out like an extendedversion of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom's fantastic booby-trapsequence, with slides, spikes, boulder, puzzles and tricks here, thereand everywhere! I still love the Goonies, it is one of the bestadventure films of all time and a deservedly beloved 80's classic! |

Almost Timeless (if you ignore the outfits) Family Movie! After having watched it over and over and over as a child, The Goonies wason TV just this week. I hadn't sat and watched it for over 10 years, plusihadn't shown my daughter it. Being 4 1/2 i wasn't sure if it would keepherattention. However, she instantly got into it. I can remember my parentsdesperately scraping around for a VHS to record it from the television andyet here i was sitting with my child watching it. I didn't see thatcoming. Not only do you love this film as a child, but you love it as an adultalso, wishing for your childhood back. The Goonies is a family classic, 6.9? Itsworthy of a lot more! |

Funny and honest. This is one of the best children's movies ever. It was written by Chris Columbus who was the director of Home Alone and based on a story by Steven Spielberg. What could be better? |

The Goonies R Good Enough For Me.Every once in a while that one movie that a whole generation of kids knows and loves comes around. For my generation, it was The Goonies. My friends and I used to pretend we were characters from the movie for months after we saw it. Goonies features one of the most endearing monsters ever, in the Baby Ruth loving Sloth, a young hero, Mikey, who uses his words incorrectly, an asian James Bond wannabe, Corey Feldman as the obnoxious Mouth, and the obligatory fat kid who everyone makes fun off. This group of kids, and Mikey's older brother and his girlfriends go off on an underground treasure hunt in an effort to save their beloved homes which are about to be torn down to make room for a country club. All the while their being pursued by The Fratellis, a family of counterfeiters who are after the same treasure. Awesome in everyway, despite it's script flaws (Data mentions the infamous non-existing octopus scene deleted from the film because it was deemed unnecessary). Goonies features many in jokes Mikey (Sean Astin) at one point exclaims "Holy Mackenzie" an obvious reference to his then teen heart throb brother Mackenzie Astin from Facts of Life. Can't go wrong with Goonies. It's that good. |

Everyone wanted to be in The Goonies... Didn't they?!Anybody whose anybody has seen this film, and everybody I know lovedit. Everyone saw this film in the 80's and grew up still loving it. Icould quite easily sit down in front of this film now, after seeing itlike a billion times and still enjoy it. Quality acting, and I mustsay, these young actors were so well scouted by Spielberg. In fact, looking back I am surprised that Corey Haim wasn't in this, but not toworry. The Tarelli's were played so well, and you just wanted the Goonies toget the better of them. And Data with his wacky gadgets you just had tolove (Slip Shoes!) Its one of those real feel good films that you canthelp but like.Well done to all involved in this film. One thing I will say though, Ibeg you, don't make a sequel! 8/10 |

Enjoyable 80's Film!I must say that it took me a long time to be able to watch this film.It came out in the mid-80's and it was a hit then. Everyone I know whoseen this film says it's still a hit. Do I agree? This film has similarconcepts to the Indiana Jones flicks. But this movie is more designedfor kids. It's about a group of kids who find a treasure map and theyfollow it to see if they can find a pirate ship with gold. The acting is fabulous. This film jumpstarted the careers of Sean Astinand Josh Brolin. The three bad guys were evil enough. The kids arelikable. Chunck did sometimes get on my nerves with his whining. The music and the special effects are good, not the best. Spielbergcame up with a great idea and Richard Donner directed a good movie. Irate this film 8/10. |

One of my all-time favoritesRichard Donner has always been known for making fast-paced and fun movies. Most people probably associate his name with the Lethal Weapon series. Butwhenever I hear his name, I always think of The Goonies. The Goonies is one of those movies that always brings out the kid in me.Everytime I watch it, I fall in love with it all over again. This isn'ttheusual teensploitation flick, filled with glamorous, ultra-cute teenagerswith whom you can't relate. These are characters you can relate to. Thekind you could swear lived right down the street from you. It's hard tonotbecome attached to them and their circumstances. So when they fallhead-first into the adventure of a lifetime, they take you along for theride. The awesome thing about this movie is that you feel like a member of thegroup all the way thru the movie. You feel like one of "the goonies". Allthe way from the beginning to the end. It all starts when they find amysterious treasure map in Mikey's (Sean Astin) attic. This then triggersachain of events which eventually puts them into an adventure of IndianaJones-esque proportions. As they dodge the many pitfalls and problems thatcome their way, you find yourself rooting for them, and almost feeling likeyou're a part of the action. Never will there be another movie as fun asthis one.The acting in this movie is top notch, considering the majority of theactors and actresses were pre-teens at the time of filming. Like I said, these characters are everyday characters you swear were ripped straightfromyour childhood. Sean Astin is great as Mikey, a teen in his early, andawkward, pubescent years. He's kind of the all-round average guy, but isthe glue that holds the group together, thus being the hero. Josh Brolinisgreat as his older brother, Brandon. He does everything you picture anolder brother to do: picks on Mikey and his friends and acts like atoughguy, while at the same time adding some guidance and looks out for hisyounger bro. Chunk, my favorite character, is played brilliantly by JeffCohen. I never fail to laugh at him bumbling around and shooting his mouthoff. Corey Feldman is in top form here as "Mouth", playing the part of thecool guy (as usual). Jonathan Ke Quan is hilarious as "Data", a childgenius with all kinds of quirky little inventions to help his friends outalong the way (yet not very skilled at using them just yet). Kerri Greenisgreat in being the pretty face of the movie as Andrea ("Andy" for short),and is a possible love interest of Brandon. Martha Plimpton is good asAndy's friend, but doesn't have too many lines. She does provide goodchemistry between her and Mouth, though, hinting at a possible relationshipin the future. The Fratelli family is portrayed quite well by Davi,Pantoliano, and Ramsey. I'd say they do a sufficient job at being as scaryas possible in their given roles as a family of hot-headed criminals out tofind a stash of treasure, thus bumping heads with the kids and posing muchof a threat. This movie might not carry the same worth with others as it does with me,given it's nostalgic value. So I must admit that my views may be a littlebiased. But, I feel that this film works on all levels at providingcomedy, adventure, and thrills galore. If you're looking for a fun movie to watch,I HIGHLY recommend giving The Goonies a chance. I know very few people whohave been disappointed with this movie, so I think it's definitely worth ashot. It's too hard not to fall in love with this move and it'scharacters. |

A wonderful film with enough adventure for the whole family...I remember lazy weekend days watching this flick with my sister andcousins, laughing and repeating our favorite quotes out loud. And then, after our imaginations had been fueled, it was off to find a treasuremap of our own. This movie is a classic. Bottom line. I have seen it more times then Ican count, and it never gets old, even as I do. It's great to watchalone, but even better with friends or family. When the day comes thatI have children, this will be one of the films I make sure they watch. The cast is excellent, and all the characters are quirky and fun. It'snot scary (so don't be worried to show it to around 5 and up), thoughthey do say 'crap'(and I think some other soft 'naughty' words), don'tknow how many parents would be upset about this...If you love adventures that seem possible, and yet just out of reach, this is for you. But, remember, this is an older movie. Don't expectdazzling effects. Generations right after mine have been spoiled byhigh-tech, flashy works that lack decent plot. Watch for the fun, notto be overly impressed by 3D awesomeness, or anything like that. One of my best loved childhood memories. Must watch! |

Good enough?Great movie, and nice of the studio to invite all the kids back for a commentary. But what in the world happened to Sean Astin during the commentary? He just up and left. Because he's now in Lord O' The Rings, everyone else isn't 'good enough' for his company? Can anyone clarify? |

Review of "The Goonies" from 3rd - 5th GradersWhat if your home were about to be torn down and turned into a golf course? You are worried that you will never see your friends again. Wouldn't it be cool if you could find some way to stop it? You decide to look for a treasure. You look with your friends so that you will all be able to find the gold and stay together. This is the main plot of "The Goonies""The Goonies" was a great movie. It had a simply great plot that will blow you away. There were quite a few funny parts. There were some amazing obstacles and you didn't know if the boys would get away past them. The action was incredibly tense. The climax was very exciting, and the denouement was a good relief. The screenwriter did a terrific job with the screenplay. The cast put a lot of effort into their performances. Overall, we really enjoyed this movie. In spite of our enjoyment, there were some flaws with "The Goonies". We noticed a few small plot holes, but they weren't that bad. Also, there was inappropriate language, and it just wasn't necessary. Some of the humor was a little inappropriate, too. This movie is scary in a bad way because things suddenly jump out at the characters. We think that children under the age of six should not see "The Goonies".We recommend "The Goonies" for kids and adults who like adventure movies. Even though it has flaws, we think it's a great movie. We hope you enjoy this movie as much as we did. |
