good movie but not so good special effects!

Well, i watched this movie after i saw rush hour. i knew that rush hourwas a big hit, even though i didn't see it till i was about 10 in 2003.So, after i decided to rent the sequel, rush hour 2. I figured sincethe first one was great, i figured the second one would be good to. Iwas right but wrong. the plot for the first one was sweet and to thepoint, no crappy punchlines or anything, it was just easy tocomprehend. whereas the second one confused me and all of my friends. Imean come on! first its that huli girl and the triads, then somehowthat Ricky tan guy comes in, then one way or another that Steven reignguy comes in. If you ask me its kinda fricken stupid. and not only thatthe special effects suck. the blood and guns were okay. but thefighting was a joke. the punches were about 2 feet away, the soundeffects were terrible, and when the best part of the fight scene in themassage parlor comes, to finish it off, when lee and carter lock handsand do the kick thing (from the first one), the kicks clearly go behindtheir heads because they go past behind, so it almost looks like itsgoing through the heads, i mean come on! And one part, where carter socalled hits the Chinese guy with the metal box, its like 3 feet away, almost like the godfather punch! And to make it even worse, if you lookclosely, the Chinese guy, as he gets hit by the box, he at first turnshis head the wrong way! im 12 almost 13 years old and i could do betterspecial effects. Anyway i recommend the first one definitely, foraction and comedy, but the second for just comedy, though they try tomake it actiony by doing the fight scenes, though they sucked, so ittruly isn't action, just comedy.

Could this movie BE any better???

I just saw Rush Hour 2 this past week and all I have to say is that it wasAWESOME! Now, I wasn't expecting it to be the movie of the year because itnever intended to be that, but boy was ever surprised. The story washilarious and the cast was even better. Chris Tucker and Jackie Chandeserved ever penny they made because they earned it. And I really liked thecasting of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Star Zhang Ziyi. If anyone likesfun, entertaining action comedies, this is the movie to see. I wouldrecommend it to everyone and anyone!

Where was Jackie Chan?

Tucker and the Ziyi Zhang, from Crouching Tiger, in the final karateshowdown in the casino with no sign of Chan? What was it with all thoseMandella jokes? Is it cool to make fun of Martin Luther King and the fightfor civil rights now? I guess now that we're all equal we can laugh at theflaming gay guy in the clothing store together. If the action sequences werebetter I might have forgiven the bad jokes but Chan is starting to look likehe needs to find a young apprentice. I left the theater with a bad taste. The best part was the out takes.

"Rush Hour 2"...much, much better than the original!!

I saw "Rush Hour 2" two times at the theaters, and the film kept getting better and better! "Rush Hour 2" has more action, more comedy than the first film! And both Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan just couldn't be better...or funnier! It doesn't mean that the first "Rush Hour" was a bad movie, because I loved the first one as well. Remember in the first film when Jackie Chan was the fish out of water in Chris Tucker's world of L.A? Well, now, it's Chris Tucker's turn to be the fish out of water in Jackie Chan's world of Hong Kong. "Rush Hour 2" chronicles L.A.'s Detective James Carter (Tucker) and Hong Kong's Detective Lee (Chan) investigating a counterfeiting scheme that involves a dangerous Chinese triad leader (John Lone). As far as the acting sequences go, Jackie Chan did an outstanding job as always. And hey, even Chris Tucker decided to get in on the action as well, and that was amazing! Zhang Ziyi ("Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon") did a superb job as well in her villainous role as the triad leader's henchwoman. In conclusion, if you want to see a typical buddy-buddy cop movie, then I suggest that you see "Rush Hour 2" as soon as possible! A great DVD addition to add on to the first one.

Great movie!

It surely is a great movie. Jacky and Tucker are so funny. People includingme and my friend were laughing all the time, especially the last part afterthe formal one was done and before the cast came out. I suggest everybodyshould go to see it. You won't regret it.Only complain is Zhang ZiYi was somehow stupid as an evil character, although she was beautiful. But wait, I like the way how she made herhair-do, that was cool... Well, if you don't know what I am talking about,go see the movie!!

triteness, convenience, puerility

I knew I would hate this movie before I even watched it. All reviews so farhave been in praise; a perspective from the pretentious side will followhere.Spoilers:Triteness: In the environment of America's most powerful, evil, and openlycommunistic enemy, two Americans are murdered - oh they'll pay for this. This Ameri-bias and ignorance is further illustrated by the horriblyridiculous explanation of the origins of the elusive printer. But theywon't pay until Carter is able to overcome his excessive need for women andparty through Lee's disclosure regarding the relationship between Tan andLee's father - now it's personal. Where do our dual protagonists go fromhere? To California, as Carter has somehow grasped the surroundingtritenessand used it to continue on the right track. Carter uses simple logic: Alltrite action movies involve a behind-the-scenes "rich white guy." Rush Hour2 is a trite movie. Therefore Rush Hour 2 involves a behind-the-scenes richwhite guy. In the end, Lee proves to be above revenge, and only"accidentally" kills his arch nemesis. He thus solves the conflict with hisfather and demonstrates this with his gift to Carter - though it would havebeen better if he had just thrown it away a la Top Gun; what does Carterwant with a stranger's badge? Also, the beautiful belle is attained and thedoor is left open for another sequel. Triteness reaches perfection.Yet we knew from the start that the plot would contain nothing ofcreativity. It is the action and comedy of this action/comedy duo that issupposed to carry the movie. It does not. The action is nothing but aseriesof conveniences stacked upon one another Hong Kong's skyscrapers and thecomedy is markedly puerile.Convenience: It's ironic that the opening panning view of Hong Kong is usedto show its large skyscrapers and technological innovation, while in itsfirst action scene a building just happens to be being made of bamboo.Basically, each action scene consists of the typical outnumbering of theheroes, the heroe's triumph, and all the while the scene is chock full ofconveniently placed objects and apparatuses. I find cinematic choreographyonly slightly less annoying than that of a music video. I just keptthinking, "They spent so much time on the least important aspects of amovie." With failed action, comedy is this movie's only savoir; it failedaswell.Puerility: For me, the most humorous aspect of this movie was the factsmallchildren were laughing just as hysterically as grown adults. I myself wouldbe embarrassed if I found myself entertaining myself with the things I hadas a child. The jokes were horrendously childish. Case in point, here are afew of the great laugh getters: "I just got a chop stick stuck up my butt,""You just told them to take out their samurai swords and shave your butt,""You all (Chinese people) look alike," and "I'll slap you back to Africa."Iwas intrigued that this racist comedy went so well over, and also thatscenes in which people are kicked in the face are so laughable. There arealso a plethora of scenes in which Carter attempts to speak Chinese, withhilarious consequences (his attempts fall short in what he was trying tosay, but conveniently he speaks prepubescent Chinese fluently). This doesnot fit my taste of comedy.:SPOILERS ENDIf you've enjoyed this movie then you've enjoyed at least one aspect of mystipulated triad. There is nothing wrong with that, I just do not preferthis type of movie.

ALMOST as good as the original

James Carter (Chris Tucker), and L.A. cop, teams up once again with Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) in this sequel to the blockbuster, "Rush Hour". While having vacation in mind, Lee and Carter come in contact with a triad bigwig and a huge ring of counterfeit. Now it's time for the action to begin all over the city of Hong Kong.Just like the original, "Rush Hour 2" is successful in being both hilarious and action packed at the same time. As always, Jackie Chan is here to do his own jaw-dropping fights and stunts (no stuntman needed!), and Chris Tucker is back once again as the pride-driven man with hilarious line after hilarious line. There's no doubt about it, if you enjoyed the duo of action and comedy that "Rush Hour" had to offer, then you can't miss out on "Rush Hour 2"! I never once thought about doing anything else while I was watching this GREAT sequel. It's ALMOST a 5-star movie and it's hot on the heels of the original, but it's not QUITE as good. My only big complaint is that there were too many jokes and lines about racial issues. Other than that, this movie is awesome.

Brill action, Brill comedy, Brill film!

This film is one of the best of the year, director Brett Ratner hascertainly surpassed himself here, the movie kicks off where theoriginal left off, with Chan & Tucker going to Hong Kong on vacation, after 3 days the duo are out solving another case. Tucker is still theloudest mouth in the west as he constantly blurts out hilarious jokesin his unique high-pitched voice, and Chan as ever is still the fastesthands in the east and has some astounding fight sequences. This movieis so much better than the first because of the mix of behaviour, inthe first film it would be Chan does the fighting, Tucker does thejokes. However this time Chan has his fair share of jokes and Tuckerhas some cool fights which combine to form a creative duo. There arealso nice references to the first film such as when Jackie tells Tuckerto "Never touch a Chinese mans radio". And to finish this great film ithas outtakes which is a nice touch to it like the first. If you lovedthe first film, you will love this even more, 8/10.

A Successful Sequel

This was a really great sequel to the amazingly funny Rush Hour.Itlived up to the first one's glory, and I find this film VERYunderrated. The script was hard to come by, seeing as how the firstone's was somewhat similar, but they TOTALLY pulled it off.I honestlysee the Rush Hour trilogy as an underrated trilogy, that needs to bemore highly praised and noticed.Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker make thesefilms outstandingly hilarious, and certainly films to die for.Go outand see this amazing sequel if you truly loved the first, for it ishonestly a great, necessary, and very pleasing sequel, that's notdisappointing or bad at all.

Good buddy movie and decent follow up

I had always looked forward to seeing Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker getbacktogether to make a sequel to the movie "Rush Hour". The second timearoundwas a successful mix of action, martial arts mayhem, and comedic momentsbutI don't think that it lived up the previous movie. Jackie Chan is up tohisusual tricks with martial arts acrobatics and Chris Tucker is the biggestmouth the East has ever seen. There is definite chemistry between thesetwo, though still, not as much as in the original. There were good comedic moments and genuine laugh out loud segments but Ifelt that many of the jokes were forced and too obvious to really elicit afull guffaw on the laugh 'o meter but this will probably be one of thefunnier movies of the summer. Chris Tucker's energy is always evident inhis bravado, arrogance, and obnoxiousness. Someone somewhere felt thatthesecret to movie success in a sequel was to have more of the same, althoughlouder and more of it. It didn't work for me here as it bordered ontiresome. The action sequences as genuine Jackie Chan with furniture manipulationsandenvironmental happenstance while mixing in speed and good technique. Inthat way, the martial arts fight scenes are superior to "Kiss of theDragon"because the viewer is more able to see what is actually going on, who getshit where, and how. Of course, having the fantastic talents of the leadfrom "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" can only help and up the ante.Appearing small and fragile, she hides incredible talent behind evillyintense eyes. She really seemed to enjoy beating the crap out of peopleinthis movie. Gotta love a person that gets into their role. Hopefully, shewill branch out and work on more varied and emotionally demanding rolesandavoid being type cast as a martial arts maiden that can act, rather thananactress with physical skills.Over all, not one of Jackie's best movies, or funniest. While inferior tothe original "Rush Hour", still a worthwhile movie and I don't regretlosingtwo hours out of my life for this. Jackie Chan is slowing down in hismovies but he still knows how to take a cup of martial arts, pour in apackof physical and verbal humor, and serve up 2 hours of an entertainmentquiche that is light, yet filling.

Not the best JC movie but a good place to start.

Following on from the commercial success of the first Rush Hour movie, thisis a fairly good sequel. The action is, as always, superb, with even ChrisTucker getting in on the action. However, when the credits started to rollat the end of the film I was left questioning the wisdom in making what isessentially a Hong Kong movie with a Hollywood crew. Jackie Chan is anartist when it comes to stunts but in this movie I felt that he was beingheld back by the limitations of the studio/producers/director/whatever. Ifthe powers that be behind Jackie's US movie career were to give him morefreedom over his action then I think that between them they could producesome truly amazing movies. Having said that, this is still a good film anddefinitely one worth seeing.

Rush Hour 2 for the Lay Person

If you could care less about all the ways critics pick apart movies and simply enjoy sitting back and seeing a great flick, you MUST see Rush Hour 2! In action and humor it far surpasses the original Rush Hour. Some of the humor is directly related to the original Rush Hour but can still draw a laugh. Jackie Chan's stunts are unbelievable and the fight scenes themselves are worth any cost to own this DVD! It is a relatively clean movie and something the entire family could enjoy. This DVD could make quite a stocking stuffer come Christmas!

Ooooh. You know there's gonna be a Rush Hour 3!

"Get closer, ooh get closerI'm burnin' now..."Just that whole bar scene defines Rush Hour 2. Explosive, entertaining, and drop-dead funny. I can honestly say that Chris Tucker earned his $20 million dollars for this film. Furthermore, It is my strong belief that this scene (the third in the movie) was the one that made you stay (as if you needed a reason to!)As far as the DVD goes, you will get more than you bargained for. a great introduction to the world of China by Jackie Chan, and all the bonus trailers would have given the DVD five stars. But, it doesn't stop there. You have to own this to believe it. Buy it for the bonus stuff. Buy it to continue the Chan/Rush Hour collection! Buy it for the laughs! Bottom Line - Just Buy it!!

What do you get when you mix a 20-million a movie actor, Jackie Chan, a hot Asian girl, and Michael Jackson?

Pure, Comedic action! Jackie Chan and Chris tucker (Lee and carter) arein hong Kong. Carter thinks lee is on vacation with him, but when lee'sboss, the chief of police in hong Kong, tells him about a bombing atthe American embassy in china, and that Ricky tan might be involved,The vacation explodes into a hilarious fest of 2 buddy cops dealingwith the triads in a massage parlor, a very beautiful undercover cop, agay guy, and another beautiful girl, who works for the bad guys. The soundtrack is laced with good music. Michael Jackson's "Don't stoptil' you get enough" and the beach boy's "California girls" are justsome of the sounds in the film.I strongly suggest you watch this film! 9/10

See the movie at least twice

Carter (Tucker) is back as the ultra manic cop from L.A. and once againis the perfect mismatch for the conservative Lee (Chan) as they bumbletheir way through police investigations this time in Hong Kong. ZhangZiyi is at her nasty best with one of the finest angry faces on thescreen, she alone is worth the price of admission. The movie is fastpaced with a simple plot and lots of trademark characteristics fromTucker as expected. This is one of those movies that you probably need to watch at leasttwice to appreciate the funny side of. I have to say I did watch itmany years ago at never even thought of watching it again. However, nowI quote lines out of it along with my other family members and thatdosen't start happening until you've watched a movies at least a half adozen times, as we have.Highly recommended for those who are fans of Tucker, Chan, Zhang andcan enjoy a movie without having to check for all the technical errors.

What A Rush

Rush Hour 2 is an unbelievably hilarious, action packed, better-than-the first sequel to Rush Hour. I strongly recommend that you rent and watch the first one before you go see Rush Hour 2 because much of the humor and jokes are based on the original one, however, this is not necessary because you will catch on quickly and only miss a couple of the related jokes. Rush Hour 2 begins exactly where the first movie leaves off. If you watch both movies in order it will just seem like one long movie. This is a nice feature because it makes the movie easier to follow and understand. Rush Hour 2 is about two detectives, Detective Lee (Jackie Chan) and Detective Carter (Chris Tucker). While on their vacation to Hong Kong Lee and Carter are called back to duty to investigate and bust an international counterfeiting ring. This is no easy task, however, as they soon find out. Carter and Lee find themselves locations around the world such as Los Angeles, Las Vegas and even Tokyo.Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker give a perfect and encore performance doing what they do best. Jackie Chan plays the serious logical and skilled martial artist Detective Lee. Chris Tucker portrays the never serious, ego boosted LAPD officer, Detective Carter. I don't believe that this movie would have had the same punch without these talented actors working together in this fabulous duo. The action in this movie is spectacular. As always, Jackie Chan performs unbelievable stunts during his fighting rendezvous. At one point in the movie he jumps and dives through a very tight slot, much like one at a cashiers cage. On the other hand Chris Tucker, let's just say... is not very good at Kung Fu, but nevertheless great comical relief. The humor in this movie is absolutely bladder busting. Ethnic and personality differences between Carter and Lee create humorous situations. For instance: Carter speaks his own version of Chinese. Obviously, he just says a bunch of random gibberish and makes himself look like a total idiot in front of a rather large group of Chinese people. Carter is quick to the tongue and is always bashing on the Chinese culture. Lee is just simply funny while acting so serious and straight-faced: A perfect contradiction.I recommend that you go see this movie or rent it when it comes out in January 2002 It will be worth your time and money, and because it stars Jackie Chan, you will get to watch the comical, and quite painful out-takes at the end of the film during the credits. You'll laugh your way through Rush Hour 2 with its wonderful blend of action and comedy.

Funny but not great

Rush Hour 1 was a hilarious film. This follow up, although funny at times lacked the oomph of the first film. It just didn't have the quality humor, non-stop humor of the first. The fight scenes weren't as creative. It was a decent film and worth the rental. After it was over I was left with a feeling that the movie was thrown together because of the success of the first film. You'll laugh but not as hard.
