Why do people keep making movies like this.Seriously, how do some people think they'll get noticed and earn lotsof money and respect with such an average and formulaic movie such asthis one.Yes, I'll admit that I'm definitely fed up at this point byhorror/slasher movies that feature a group of young, perfect looking, college students. Of course there is also still the obligatory fat guy,who also happens to be the only single of the group and is the only onethat likes to play video games. It's amazing how these kids still seemto worry about their relationships and other personal stuff, whiletheir friends are all being killed one by one, in front of them. Themovie of course still starts out happy, in which the kids are preparingthemselves for a week full of liquor and careless sex. God, I'm so gladI have never hung out with a sort of friend-group as got portrayed inthis movie. But of course the movie is not just being formulaic with its charactersbut also with its story. Lots of people seem to compare it to moderntorture horror movies but guess that no one has seen the Japanese movie"Batoru rowaiaru", that pretty much uses the same concept as thismovie. So no, obviously this movie isn't being a very original one buton top of that, the story is also just far too weak to consider it everreally a believable enough one. Seriously, the reason why the killer ismessing with these kids is just way out there and frankly I just didn'tbuy into his silly motivations. But also the way these kids arehandling the whole situation feels at all times far from likely. Noneof them are predictable, which sounds like a good thing but in thiscase isn't really. Whenever you think someone is good and the movie isgoing to focus on him/her and treat him/her as the hero of the movie,he/she does something incredibly immoral and you start to no longercare for any of the characters and whether or not they are going tosurvive. But still, it remains a pretty decent made genre movie, that iscertainly good looking and also features some nice gore and killings. But in this case this still isn't really being enough to please thefans of the genre. It doesn't save the movie, it just spices up thingsa little at times. And it's a real shame, since the movie gives you the feeling that itstill could had been a pretty original and interesting one, had it donemore with its concept and perhaps had some better written characters init. If you want to see this movie done well, I suggest you go see "Batorurowaiaru".5/10http://bobafett1138.blogspot.com/ |

Every One Has Killer InstinctsFor a 2009 movie, Kill Theory kicked major ass. It was in the vein ofthe Saw movies, except with teenagers pitted against an unseen killer, with deadly intentions. This movie is an awesome teenage slasher film ,which centers on a group of college friends who stay the weekend at afriends home deep in the wilderness for a weekend to remember, whichbecomes a bloody fight for survival. Kill theory features some of themost brutal and inventive death scenes, worth checking out. This moviehad a sexy and delicious cast including one of my favorite actresses,Agnes Bruckner (Venom and Blood and Chocolate and Vacancy 2), hot newcomer Ryanne Duzich (Friday Night Lights) and Taryn Manning (8 Mile andThe Breed). These three sexy ladies make this movie hot and sexy andscary as hell. If anyone comes across this movie, in a store or onamazon.com, i urge you to buy, you definitely wont be disappointed! |

Takes everything that has made slashers work in the past, and incorporate that into a very competently made modern slasher flick. At this point in horror history, long gone are the simple, yeteffective, "By-the-numbers" slasher flicks. Everything has to be biggerand better than the last big thing. What Kill Theory does NOT do, is bean innovative force. It doesn't try to create the next big gimmick forhorror movies to come. What it DOES do, and well I might add, is takeeverything that has made slashers work in the past, and incorporatethat into a very competently made modern slasher flick. One of the things I liked most about Kill Theory, is that there reallyisn't a main character. There is no obvious hero, there isn't really a"Red herring" so to speak. The film puts together a decent ensemble ofpeople, some of whom are recognizable from past efforts, some wereunknowns. For me, I immediately noticed Theo Rossi, and Taryn Manningfrom Sons Of Anarchy, an excellent show if you haven't checked it outyet. I also recognized Daniel Franzese from "Bully". Overall though,Each character appears to be as important as the last. It neveremphasizes one character over an other. The concept is interesting. It's not something new, but it's done verywell, and keeps you engaged in the story, instead of waiting for thenext kill. Normally in modern slashers, I've completely tuned the"Story" out, and I'm sitting in anticipation for the next piece ofvisual effects put on display. Speaking of effects, there are plenty ofscenes of blood and gore in the film, which are also done very well. Soif you're looking for some grue and grime, you'll be pleasantlysurprised by the level of gritty violence and gore. The pacing was perfect. Sitting at a brisk 81 minutes, the film takesno time setting things in motion. There is a "Whodunit" aspect to thefilm, but it never harps on it. You don't see the "Killer's" face untilthe end of the film, but it doesn't make it a big "Reveal" moment, andthose of us who have been keeping up to date on slashers, willimmediately recognize his voice. If you're thirsting for a slasher film, and if you're like me, and aresick of the "Saw" franchise, and it's imitators, give Kill Theory ashot. It may not be the next big thing, but it takes different elementsthat made classic slashers work, and put them together in a fun, bloody, competent package.3.5/5 - napalmfuzzhttp://liberaldead.blogspot.com |

Decent idea with bad executionReasons I liked this 1. The idea of the villain making the victims killeach other was kinda new. 2. The acting was decent. 3. The surprise atthe end was... a surprise.Reasons I didn't like this 1. The victims weren't particularlysympathetic or likable. I wanted to see them die. 2. The villain was achatty bastard just like that moron Jigsaw. Man, just shut up with yourdamn philosophy garbage. Give me silent slashers like Leatherface,Jason or Michael... that or give me funny/scary ones like Freddy orBilly (Black Christmas). 3. Too much Shaky-CAM!!! 4. Too much pointlessrunning around and jabbering just to pad out the time. 5. Lame HighSchool (I know, they're supposed to be college students...) histrionicsoap opera crap. I came away with the idea these people might haveoffed each other even without the encouragement of Mr. Talksalot.So... 5 to 3... means this movie was a dud. Only worth watching ifyou're really bored, like I was. |

A Great Thriller. Funny And BloodyI'm from Colombia and i didn't even heard about this movie until themoment i saw it. it just surprises me that this movie hasn't been showinto the light. it's a thrilling, fast-paced, edge of your seatthriller. even thought the beginning is slow and clichéd, the other 60minutes are full of well built tension and strong characterdevelopment. it gives you all the stereotypes of horror movies and thenit kind of twisted of. i have to say that if you expect a Saw-esquiremovie, you will be bored because it's not so graphic and the ending isnot so manufactured. it has everything to become a success ( funnymoments, great killings and a great ending). it's incredible that lionsgate hide this one and releases that Dane Cook crap. the only thingthat bothers me a little is the ending . i just, i wasn't expecting itat all. the other thing was Daniel Franzese's character. reallyannoying and out of nowhere. So if you want to spend a nice ( even thought bloody and thrilling)time this one is just perfect for you. 4 stars out 5 |

Your friends are going to stab you in the back...To be honest, Kill Theory wasn't high on my "Must watch of '09" list.Actually, it wasn't on there at all. But, I had the chance to, so Ifigured I might as well do. Let me tell you, I'm glad I did. KillTheory is one of the best Horror films in ages. I know what you'rethinking. "If it's so great, then why haven't I heard of it?" You haveyour friends down at LionsGate to blame for that. Here they have aperfectly good movie on their hands and they won't release it for onlyGod knows why. Perhaps these early good reviews might prompt them to,but don't hold your breath on it. After all, this is LionsGate.Kill Theory is about a group of 6 college friends who head off to asecluded vacation home for fun and... well, I think you know. But,before they can get to any of that, they are targeted by a mysteriouskiller who forces them to kill off their friends -- or be killedthemselves. Let's just say that there's a bloody, gory mess leftbehind.Think you know who survives? Think again. There is no virgin blondegirl with big boobs who manages to easily defeat the killer even thoughher friends couldn't. The body count is completely random andunpredictable. I couldn't believe who survived, that being due to thefact that all the characters are developed so very well. I alsocouldn't believe the last-minute twist which is executed so well that Iwas left just gaping at the screen. The acting is good and so are the production values, so half the timeyou don't even feel like you're watching a DTV flick.Honestly, if LionsGate doesn't give this movie the treatment itdeserves, then something's definitely outta wack. If they can give widereleases to crap like Disaster Movie, then they should have no problemwith this solid slasher flick.I highly recommend this movie if you're a fan of teen slice 'em ups oreven if you're not. Fans of the Saw series should like it also since ithas quite a few similarities to those movies.Final Verdict: 10/10, 2009 looks set to be a good year for Horror withmovies such as My Bloody Valentine 3-D (also distributed by LionsGate)and the reboot of Friday the 13th. |

like a chicken with its head cut off...Part of After Dark Horrorfest 4, Kill Theory (2009) directed by Chris Moore, features a twisted variation of the kill or die scenario, when a group of friends is forced to turn on each other. Once set in motion, events play out dramatically and violently, though not very credibly, as the characters demonstrate few critical thinking skills, and a fair amount of treachery. The instigator of the mayhem is a fellow named Walter (Kevin Gage) who to save his own life while mountain climbing, cut a rope that sent three of his friends to their deaths. Tried and convicted of manslaughter, Walter spends several years in a mental institution, before being conditionally released. Unfortunately Walter still has issues, and seeking closure, he sets in motion a deadly scheme. Seven friends gather at a home in the country, to celebrate their upcoming graduation from college. Shortly after the group settles in for the night, Nicole (Steffi Wickens) is abducted while grabbing a snack. Soon after, Nicole's dead body is hurled through a window, awakening everyone in the house. Cut into the dead girl's belly, are the letters "TV". The group, switches on the television, and view a video narrated by the killer. It shows Nicole being urged to shoot her sleeping boyfriend, and then later having refused, they witness the killer slitting her throat. Walter says that if more than one person is alive in the house at 6am, they will be killed. If only one person is alive, then no harm will come to them. For those in the house, the options are either all will die, or only one will survive the night. There is some panicking and a lot of loud discussion, however not a lot of rational behavior comes from it. Cell phones don't work, and there is apparently no internet, so the group is on their own. Anyone who leaves the house is apparently fair game, as the killer has traps planted at various locations, and also has a rifle. The group attempts to escape in the only available vehicle, but the Killer disables it using another trap. Paranoia grows stronger, as people start to die, and the Killer steps in to provide some additional motivation. The survivors start to crack under pressure, and turn on each other in an overdramatic last act, that is terribly written and acted. In the end, Walter does gain some closure, and the reason why the group was chosen for his experiment, is revealed. The film creates a situation, cranks up the pressure, tosses in a few weapons, and then some selfish unlikeable characters, destroy each other. It doesn't plays out in a very credible way. The Killer can't be everywhere, so if they had just split up and gone in different directions, the situation would have fallen apart, or at least more would probably have survived. For whatever reason, the victims apparently believe that the Killer will actually keep his word, and spare the sole survivor. Through this turns out to be the case, there is really no reason for that trust. The cast do a decent job with what they are given, but the screenplay doesn't do them any favors, having them behave like morons, who stab each other in the back for silly reasons. Almost everything feels fake and stilted towards achieving the desired goal. Starring Agnes Bruckner, Patrick Flueger, Ryanne Duzich, Teddy Dunn, Steffi Wickens, Daniel Franzese, and Theo Rossi, the film is worth a watch for the very curious, or those that prefer a slasher type flick with a downbeat ending. |

This was one of the best psychological horror movies I've ever seenI honestly have no idea why this movie has such a low rate.It was oneof the best movies I've seen recently especially because, let's faceit, there are a lot of movies these days that suck.Finding a good movieto watch is like finding a needle in a haystack, and today I found it.I was entertained throughout the whole movie, not one bit was boring, andthat's the whole point, isn't it?The acting was OK,it could have been better, but it was far from bad andthe acting is I think the only reason why I didn't give this movie a10.The movie was exciting, intense and the ending was unexpected, but not inan annoying way (when I say annoying I mean like one of those movieswhere it turns out that everything was just in the main character'smind, which has become totally expected because there are so many moviesthat end like that). |

This was actually pretty good.I heard of this movie from IMDb and I actually had never heard of itbefore. It had a low 5.6 rating but after reading some positive reviewsI decided to give it a try and Im glad I did. It story line thatssomewhat original for a slasher and its executed very well. The actingis good right up until the scenes where they are forced to use emotionthen some of the actors are shaky. This movie is about a man who its just getting out of jail on amanslaughter charge. He was rock climbing with his friends when the ropabove him was going to snap he decided to cut the rope and drop his twofriends to their death. His lawyer said normal people wouldn't make thesame choice and this man set out to prove him wrong using a group ofcollege kids as his test subjects.I actually really enjoyed this movie and I think it deserves more thena measly 5.6. It was a solid original idea and it was one of the moreentertaining slasher movies I have seen. |

Decent enough but indistinguishable from others of this genreA man makes a life and death decision that leads the the death of threeof his friends. He's jailed, undergoes treatment and eventuallyreleased but told by some arrogant doctor who oversees his treatmentthat no sane person would ever make such a decision. The man goes on totest this out by seeking out the doctor's son and the son's friends whoare vacationing at an isolated country home, trapping them in the houseand forcing them to make a similar life and death decision. For the most part everything is fair and competent: acting, directiondialogue, visual and audio. And, there are some disturbing butwell-done gore scenes.Even though the premise seems somewhat different, the movie is built onthe same framework as every other teen slasher flick. The people arekilled one by one and you can pretty much predict who will die next. So, the movie isn't bad, it's just not anything new. And, if you wantto see something from this horror genre, there are better movies outthere. |

What would have been big in the 90s seems deja vu here.I thought this was decent and better than expected bloody thriller withsolid acting but this horror theme is very tiresome and recycled nowand is no longer thrilling or scary. I thought it was well paced andhad ordinary but very brutal kills but what really stands out in thismovie and what makes it interesting is the psychological mind games thecharacters play on each other and the hard decisions they make in orderto survive this twisted cat and mouse game. This is pretty muchsurvival of the fittest for the slasher crowd with a mix of Saw, Screamand Battle Royale but less inventive because in the end nothing reallystands out in this and is a forgettable throw away. I does have betterproduction values than previous slashers from after dark horrorfest butlike most movies from that fest you won't even remember the name of itin a few years. Overall it had an intriguing tagline, decent but asexpected leads, ruthless violence and a harsh psychological, cat andmouse game the characters are forced to play and the final twist whichis both the highlight of this otherwise forgettable thriller. Worth atleast a rental but not a must see. |

Not as bad as I expected.......*May contain Spoilers*I was pleasantly surprised with "Kill Theory". Obviously I read thereviews before watching and I had some doubts because I don't reallycare for your everyday teen slasher films. This one was better thanyour average slasher. The beginning I feel was a little rushed but I understand they wantedto get the killers story quickly covered before moving onto biggerthings. Unfortunately if you did not pay close attention to the first10 min. then you completely missed the entire point of the end of themovie, which by the way was a GREAT twist that I did not seecoming...very well planned out. I always enjoy movies that star AgnesBruckner and wish that there were more of them, her character islikable. The other characters were well formed and relatable with yourtypical good guy, bad guy of the group being obvious to the viewer. Some creative death scenes, even though some are not so believable. Idon't know of many situations that you can be shot in the stomach ofall areas and still be able to knock someone to the ground, sit on themand strangle them for several minutes. But it is a movie and I get thegore effect. Script was good and actors did a good job of portrayingthe story.Overall a good movie that I will watch again in the future, I wouldrecommend it. :) |

DisappointingI'm actually kind of surprised by all the positive reviews that Kill Theory has garnered. This was one of the main attractions for me when first checking out this year's After Dark Horrorfest lineup, and the end result is basically a cross between Saw and slasher conventions. A group of college grads (among them horror vet hottie Agnes Bruckner and Sons of Anarchy's Theo Rossi) become the targets of a killer (Kevin Gage) who proceeds to turn them all against each other in an effort to survive until just one is left standing. In between all that is some atrocious acting and average makeup effects, but what saves Kill Theory from being complete horror rubbish are the decent amount of twists towards the end of the film. Those alone make Kill Theory worth a look, but all in all, you're not really missing much here. |

SAW re-written with college kids trapped in a vacation house. This movie was clunky and an obvious rip off but it was pretty fun to watch and laugh at. The plot is a little ridiculous and far fetched and riddled with holes. The movie doesn't really elaborate too much on how the killer is aware of the movement of 8 people at all times. The only contact he has with them is through a walkie talkie and I don't believe for a second that every escape route was booby trapped and monitored. The characters could have loaded up supplies and escaped but instead they just stand around yelling at each other or just don't care. The whole thing was really illogical but I guess it's fun if you ever wondered what Saw would have been like if it was made to be just another horror trope flick with a sadistic killer. Just seems like it was made really quick with no real thought put into it. |

Great plot, great acting yet there was some stream missing from this movie.I Thought the trailer made this movie look really good with a lotaction it.This movie 3 couples going to cabin for the weekend and soon are indanger when some stranger Kills one their friends and tell to Killthere Friends, If no one kills they will die. I think the plot for the movie was decent twist on normal cabin in thewoods movies There had some decent actors, who don't over act theirscenes. There were decent Bloodly moment in this movie, they could have beenmore bloody for slasher movie.I felt this movie a bit too much like Donkey Punch that came yearbefore, Which I didn't really like at all, (Not seen it that movie forwhile, May need to re-watch that, I didn't really like that at thetime) I didn't like how the movie ended at all, I thought it decent twist onnormal slasher movie but don't think there anything that really stoodout their for this movie to get notice. 4/5 out of 10 |

A lot better than I expectedThis review is from: Kill Theory (After Dark Horrorfest 4) (DVD) I was a bit doubtful about this movie. I purchased it on a whim, because I enjoy horror movies and the plot seemed interesting. However, upon reading some of the reviews I regretted my decision. To my surprise, I enjoyed most of the movie.THE AWESOMEThe setting was a perfect choice, as were the props.THE GOODThe actors were fairly talented, most of them with experience in other shows and movies. I was also surprised by how attractive they were. The plot was also decent, and I was honestly surprised by who the survivor was, and how they became so.THE BADThose that haven't read the synopsis would probably find it somewhat confusing. Since I did, I understand the beginning pretty well, but my family found it a bit confusing. There wasn't anything too horrible, or I'm sure that I would've rated lower. The reason that I gave it a 4 was because while there was no one thing that was super horrible, there were a few things that added up. For example, I felt that considering that the climax, and much of the story was strong, the ending seemed to lack the closure that any ending should have.Overall, I give this movie a grade of a B+/A- (88-90%). Any horror movie fans would enjoy this movie. |

Really good slasher/horror flickSome will say this flick is not all that original but that is not the case. It has a bit of "Saw" in it where "normal" folks are put in a group situation of dire straits and then they have to decide individually whether or not they will turn on their friends. And but for a few minor flaws, the movie does what it does well and that's to shock, scare, and keep the viewer on the edge of their seats. The flick starts with a man in a sanitarium who is about to be released. He's basically had a nervous breakdown because during a cliff climbing adventure, his rope was about to snap, so to save himself he cuts the rope below him which dooms three of his friends who fall to their death. We do discover however he is not completely innocent because he was charged with 2nd degree murder as a result and he got a plea bargain to stay out of prison.Flashforward: we have a group of 7 friends go to the weathly ones parent's lake house to celebrate their future graduation. Hooking up with the stepsister who was vacationing there already, we have a group of eight who are by nightfall told that only one of them can survive or they all die by morning. As a result, they are all must either trust or distrust their friends, girl/boyfriends, and stepsibling in a life or death game between some psycho but even more so, each other. Besides a few out of place exposition moments, the film really moves well. The acting is really good and the emotional struggles the folks go through are as real as you'd think. The bad quality of some of the people comes right out while others have hearts of gold. Others in the group of 8 have qualities who are in the middle where they are very good folks but they also do not want to die and become conflicted and seem to bounce around before settling to mostly supportive and helpful roles within the group of friends. As a whole, this film is really good. The people, though mostly good people, show the realism of a gray between the black and white of life but unlike most horror films with silly conversions to evil or over the top psychopaths, this film gives a new spin of people who fall closer to good without being silly caricatures of good and evil. And some of their backstories make the weaker ones seem confused and more real. For the exploitation film buff from the blood and boobs crowd, there is definately a lot of blood and gore and the women are very, very attractive and dressed mostly in provocative clothing, not surprising for a summer time vacation at a lakehouse. So any fan of horror, slasher, thriller, or exploitation films will enjoy. Highly recommended. |

Fairly Decent Mix of Saw and Ten Little IndiansWhilst celebrating a graduation at a secluded vacation home, a group ofcollege students find themselves targeted by a sadistic killer whoforces them to play a deadly game of killing one another in order tosurvive.I was pleasantly surprised to see Agnes Bruckner (who plays Jennifer)was in the cast, being a fan of "The Woods". Oddly, throughout thewhole film, I never recognized her. Hmmm. This movie is a lot like "Saw" (or maybe "Saw II") in that it haspeople forced to kill others rather than the madman doing the workhimself. Kevin Gage even has a very Tobin Bellesque voice, and I haveto wonder if he was cast based on the voice alone, since he is rarelyon screen. We are also reminded of "Ten Little Indians", the classic AgathaChristie novel. Many films have borrowed this concept -- I couldprobably name ten from the last ten years. But it is one growingsubgenre of horror I do not mind. Watching with friends, you can pickyour favorite character and see if they are the one to be remaining. The twists and turns are here, too, and you never know who is deaduntil you are absolutely sure. Sometimes it is only a flesh wound, soexpect a few people not to go down so easily. There is also one "major"twist, which I did not find very shocking, but maybe it will excite youmore than me (this is one you will have to discover on your own). |

Some Interesting Moments, Needs ActorsKILL THEORY has an interesting premise - which has been done many timesbefore - but aside from one or two actors, the general cast is full ofpretty boys and girls who were very amateurish actors. Nothing going onin their eyes, monotone line readings and when many of them have tohave moments of hysteria and panic - not one real MOMENT, no real tears- just ACTING - just people saying look at me ACT - do you believe ANYof this? Nope - not one bit. And my friends and I were laughing becauseit seemed that the director might have told the young cast when momentsof murder and terror happen to "just wing it - just ad-lib" soliterally every other word is the f-bomb, "what the f**k?" "are youf**king kidding me?" "f**k you!" There was more cussing in this than aRichard Pryor concert film and it added NOTHING. You could play adrinking game that every time they say f88k, you take a shot of boozebut then you'd be...dead. And the cliché voice of the killer is sometired SAW-like copy - just once how about the killer sounds weak andnebbish? Just to shake things up a bit. The two blonde female leadswere interchangeable but I swear one of them must be on Vicodin - younever such low energy, no spark readings in your life. If you wannaride through Horror Cliché Town, grab a seat. KILL THEORY is an ideasearching for a better script and some professional actors. |
