Mind blown

Watched the movie today and I would like to tell that it is aninspiring tale of love and you cannot feel its "Rhythm" until you arein love with someone so deeply that you may lose your mind and body init. I don't want to spoil anything here but seriously if you don't likeit, then quite frankly you haven't known what love is. Now the plot,cinematography and music were the strength of the film, since its Mrs.Danush's first movie, it isn't bad for a beginner and surely she has alot to improve and I'm sure she will eventually. I'm forced to givenothing short of 10 for this masterpiece. There are only a handful ofmovies which are inspiration for me, and this has got a special place.P.S. This is my first review and I would like to say that, this movieisn't something you should miss.

Mind boggling performance

Let me first tell you that don't go with any expectations just becoz ofthe Kolaveri Di song.Amazing performances by Shruti Hassan and Dhanush.The emotional sceneshave been well enacted by Shurti Hassan esp in the climax when shecries her heart you.If you follow her journey carefully you wilunderstand her pain.Dhanush as a school kid is not so convincing but in the second half heplays his a game .what a performer.take a bow.he is unpredictable makesu sshift at the edge of seat.Watch it for amazing storyline,screenplay and outstanding performancesof lead cast. Its not a typical masala flick but a film on a topic thathasn't been touched on.

A movie well made

this movie might not appeal to the mass crowd looking for a typicalfamily masala entertainment. but for some one who will enjoy serioussensible cinema, 3 is a definite watch. Its true that Dhanush hascontinued his genre of psychotic streak from Mayakkam Enna into thismovie as well. But as débutant director, Aishwarya has created a moviethat will keep you hooked through the entire stretch.The first half of the movie is light and fresh, and almost everyteenager or adult will relate to it. the sweet and cute love story oftwo school kids, that grows into a relationship is well shown.the second half of the movie is a true showcase of Dhanush's acting.the darker shades of the character keeps up the suspense effect of themovie.i would definitely recommend this movie for anybody who wants to watcha sensible different movie, which isn't just a brainless entertainment.

A Brilliant,Beautiful and Touching Masterpiece...

I just watched 3 a.k.a "moonu" 2 months back. There are many things tobe told about this movie. Firstly, this movie was written and directedby a debutant director, Aishwarya.R.Dhanush. Well, all I new about herwas she was director Selvaraghavan's apperentice, and wife to actorDhanush. Now about the movie, she has done an AMAZING job in the story,screenplay, and especially the touching dialogues. Despite being adebutant director and writer, she has done a perfect job in the way sheportrayed Ram and Jananai's characters. It was as if we were living intheir story.The music was equally brilliant by Anirudh Ravichander. Ifwe think out of the box, only then this movie can be our cup of tea.Agreed that there were a few flaws; "Why this koleveri di" video, a bitexaggerated scenes of crying, etc. But, come on! This is justAishwarya's beginning! I agree suicide in bipolar isn't normal, but ithas been shown clearly that Ram doesn't take his medication properlyand towards the end, avoids Senthil from accompanying him into hishouse before the suicide. This movie is underrated, and deserves a muchbetter recognition. Don't miss it. It's a movie of a lifetime. :)

Why this Kolaveri D(hanush)

"3" is nothing but a couple's attempt at feeding the narcissism of thehusband, here by couple I meant Dhanush & Aishwarya Dhanush. That theyhave taken recourse to their half-backed knowledge of Psychiatry isdespicable. It is stupid & irresponsible on the part of the makersindulging in such appalling disservice to Mental health system by time& again portraying Psychiatric illness in poor light & thusperpetuating stigma. Trying to demonize a disorder like BipolarAffective Disorder which is one of those disorders which has a verygood prognosis is disgraceful.It is a wannabe Selvaraghavan movie. Right from the first frame tillthe last there is semblance of all Selvarghavan movies minus theemotional connectivity which used to be so effortlessly generated inhis movies. It is a wannabe "different " movie. The makers seem to have venturedinto the movie with idea of making a "different" movie & hence tried tomanipulate with the script to include many trivial "novelties" whichthey thought would make the movie look "different". What justificationdoes the screenplay has for the lead pair getting married in adiscotheque? What hinders makers in doing basic homework of the subject taken beforestarting a project. With their inadequate knowledge when they handlesuch sensitive subjects they do more harm than good. With all thosefactual inaccuracies & fallacies they have made Bipolar AffectiveDisorder (here they have tried to portray the most rarest of rare type"Ultra ultra rapid cycling BPAD" ) to look one of the most dangerousmental illness one would have & it is better to end one's life ratherthan getting treated with numerous options available & lead a normallife as any other. Stigma is a very difficult challenge to circumventbut irresponsible people like these by making such hedonistic moviesare only going to propagate it. Dhanush has tried to showcase what all he can for no reason at all.Shruthihassan is wasted in unidimensional role in which glycerin hasmore work to do than herself. Sunder continues from where he left in"Mayakkam Enna" while Siva tries to ape Shanthanam. Parts betweenPrabhu & Dhanush are interesting. Velraj's Cinematography is good. All songs in the movie are excellent.Music is by Anirudh. He has done well in background score as well. Pitythat such wonderful compositions are wasted by poor picturization. There are a few bright spots here & there. The visualization ofauditory hallucination is brilliant . On the whole, "3" is artificial , factually inaccurate , irresponsible, loud & futile attempt.Bottomline : Why this Kolaveri D(hanush)

Starts awesomely… loses at the interval… Award winning performance by Dhanush

1st half of the movie is excellent.specially 53:00 . Then it starts todecline it's excellence. Awesome performance by Dhanush,ShrutiHaasan,Sunder Ramu.This movie is all about First Love, True Friendship. Friendship in thismovie displayed excellently. Dhanush should get some award for hisperformance. Awesome direction,screen play,background music. Inspiring music by Anirudh Ravichander.Makes the film a well-packedentrainment.Movie did win some heart but fail to be called a block buster or hit.Overall it is a Romantic movie.

A Good Romantic Flick

The movie 3 starring Dhanush and Sruthi Haasan in the lead, was famouslong ago before its release just because of the Internationallyaccepted 'Kolaveri' song.The movie is in the same genre of recent Dhanush movies like Aadukalam,Mayakkam enna etc. A story of an abnormal hero.From the very beginning itself the movie says it's not a masalaentertainer. Film starts with the scene where all are crying sittingaround Ram's(Dhanush) dead body. Then the flash back begins.Ram and Janani were School students and were studied in differentschools. Ram was from a rich family and Janani from an average one. Rammet Janani on the road one day and he fell in love at first sight. Thenhe join in the same tuition center were Janani was going. Graduallythey both fell in love.Janani's mother's(Rohini) ambition was to go USA with the family. Hersister was there and she was ready to take them there if Janani studieswell. At the stage when she got Visa to USA she burn her's. Then shecame to Ram and tell him to marry her. Ram tell his father(Prabhu) andMother(Bhanupriya) about the relation and they agrees. But Janani'sparent's won't initially. Then Ram convince them and every thing willbe going fine.Then some problem will start. What are the problems. How he react tothat problems etc are the remaining part of the movie. Finally, themovie ends by revealing the truth behind Ram's deathThe lead actors performed well. Direction also is appreciable, eventhough it has failures in parts. But as she is a debutant in the field,it's negligible. The love scenes between Ram & Janani was superblytaken. It make us feel to love. Also the Songs are superb. Well doneAnirudh.

A movie that isn't just a facade of emotions

Aishwarya's debut is not only emotional but it also manages to drivehome the message she wants to convey with the velocity and ferocityrequired. The first half is full quiver as the eve of love and itsuccessions are portrayed in a brilliant yet simplistic manner.Dhanush's subtle emotion paired with Shruti Hassan's angelic lookschurn into a romantic piece that fissures itself in our hearts. Thefirst half with it's humor and fresh screenplay arrows itself pastexpectations and penetrates deep to form expectation for a film thathad so much hype. So far, so good, the second half doesn't take offwith a vengeance, though a sense of intrigue creeps in, there is nodevelopment in that section instead the film takes a emotional routewith thriller tinting it at every turn. The performances are brilliant,Dhanush is at his usual best with his expressions saying all. ShrutiHassan and the rest of the crew have given their best. Though the filmdoesn't pace up well, the emotional sequences emanate a sense ofrelativity that swirls and synchronizes with the story, Dhanush is atribute to acting and he is the soul and flesh through which the bloodof the story flows. Hats off to Aishwarya.

Complimented well byShruthi & the supporting cast. Won't be surprised to see Dhanushgetting his second consecutive national award. And of course Aishwaryadeserves a huge applause for making all this possible.Great directionindeed. Brilliant script. The 3 stages of couple's life has been shownbrilliantly.Music has already gone rage.'Po Nee Po' is a killer track. So muchfreshness in the music. The kid is a real talent. Long way to go in theindustry. The BGM was excellent.Must watch for all movie lovers.

Brilliant but.....

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, specially the first half, its just aride of feel good emotion. The second half kind of drives away butstill i enjoyed the brilliant work by a debutant director i am sure sheis going to be a gem in Indian cinema However there is 1 thing that iam not convinced about "the disease" I have worked with lots of bipolarpatients, treated many, i am completely aware of how bipolar works, andits nothing like in the movie, although the doctor in the moviementions that it is something he hasn't seen before , it is just hardfor me to believe that bipolar can present in that way, as a resultafter 1 point in the movie i had a hard time digesting the rest, thereare thousands of people around us, who have bipolar and are completelyfine. i really wished they picked a different condition than bipolarwhich would have made it more believable, but overall kudos to theteam, as always dhanush knocks it out of the park and still holds thelist in my heart on 1 of the best actors i have seen in my life.

Normal drama and excellent story telling

Aishwarya R.Danush, gotta mention her name first coz she deserves it.This movie is a "my sassy girl", "moment to remember" to Indian cinema.If I was a director the cult status of "kolaveri" would have made me toredo the script. nut man! she is a man and a brave woman, the movie (orjourney) in remarkable and i warn you this story can be felt only ifyou travel through it.Few may wonder what makes the movie so great? As you ppl ritly know ourheroes seldom die jus like Hollywood and this is our PS I love you. By no means I am comparing the stories of the movies I quoted above,its just that I felt the same lump in my throat while watching thismovie.There is something more than bollywood in India and we call ourselvesas Tamil, telugu, malayalam, kannada and bengali etc (satyajithray!).If you have time and heart do see our movies including this. Its myhumble request.

time well spent.

first of all, hats off to aishwarya. it was her first direction and shedid an absolutely brilliant job.danush's acting was amazing as usual. sruthi hasan, well, if only shecould act as well as she could sing, things would be different. butthat may not even be possible.coming to the movie, when the song "kolaveri di" became a world-widehit, anticipations for the movie sky rocketed!! but, everyone expectedthe usual romantic stuff with the girl ditching the guy or vice versa. the movie starts off really slowly where you indeed think it is acheesy-cheesy chick flick!! but then, it soon picks up pace and beforeyou know what, BAM!! there are surprises and twists in every cornerthat leaves you gasping for breath!! you walk out of the theatrepuzzled and deep in thought.in short, this is a must watch movie especially for people who likemovies that are intellectual and sci-fi.

Will the real psycho please stand up...please stand up!

There is nobody else who could beat him in outnumbering the number ofpsycho roles done by him and all of them connected to a woman or manywomen. I seriously don't know what Aishwarya R Dhanush was trying toconvey. A love story? A psycho story? The survival of a couple? WTF iswrong with the producers who gave this a thumbs up sign!!! If the firsthalf concentrated on the blossoming of love between dhanush and sruthihaasan, the second half leave shruthi haasan completely in the dark. Itis a 'Mayakam Yenna' encore in the second half sans the presence of afemale lead. And there is no reason stated, no connection as to whydhanush snaps..and why it had to wait up to intermission sequence. Ohthe twist! **** the twist! And Shruti Haasan should try her luck attamil soap operas. She is better off emoting a dead fish and crying formost of the time. PS: If someone wants to really watch some classyperformance with Bi- Polar syndrome as the central theme...watch"Vadakumnadan"(Mal)

all about 3

it is a movie for matured minds,so i kindly advise to the kids andthose who are immature can prefer some other movies. The acting ofdhanush is extraordinary,he gave his best shot and the movie carries agood message that "suicide is not the better solution to get reveledfrom all troubles".And i agree that shurthihassan was not apt for therole, because she doesn't seem to be a girl from middle-classfamily.And the BGM is the biggest plus for the movie, i hope anirudhhave a good feature.First half had a good pace with more commercialelements but the second half showed off the acting skills ofdhnaush,you cant expect much from a actor,he done his best.

A Love story with breezy romance and fun, but Sentimental Waste!

3 Film Review 2012 Rating: 2.8/5 | Satisfactory3 is the story centers around the lives of a teenage boy and girl whofall deeply in love and determined to be together. A Romantic Dramafilm directed by Aishwarya R Dhanush who made her debut as directorwith the film 3 in Tamil. It was released in two languages in bothTamil and Telugu.The film starts with the death ceremony of the protagonist and usesflashback chronology to depict some of the major events of the pastlife till his death. Ram (Dhanush) a school student who falls in lovewith Janani (Shruti) during their 12th standard. Both fall deeply inlove and years later on they get married. This is what the first halfof the movie talks about - a typical teenage love story with breezyromance and fun. After this, suddenly the major conflict and contrastarises in the screenplay and spoils the audience expectations bypulling or dragging the story harder towards the end. The second halfof the movie reveals that the other side of the protagonist Ram's lifewhich is coined with series of suffering and tragedy of his life thatled to his death. He is having a psychological disorder called Bipolardisorder which makes him behave abnormally. The rest of the moviereveals that the relationship between Ram and Janani and the fearregarding the struggle between love and disorder.As usual, Danush's performance is the only thing in the film which isexcellent and he had done a great job as Ram, in which his life isdepicted the struggle between love relationships and psychologicaldisorder. Shruti Haasan has done a decent job as an innocent schoolstudent as well as a lovely wife, even though it is not great tomention about it. She should also improve her acting skills anddialogue delivery even better than this. There is something to mentionabout Shruti Haasan here; as a Janani she makes people squeeze a tearwith every shot. The other notable cast such as Prabhu, Bhanupriya,Rohini, Sivakarthikeyan and Sunder Ramu were doing a good job but theyare not utilized properly in the script. Anirudh's music was absolutelygood, but the songs picturization is not effective and quiet poor,especially 'Kolaveri di' is a major disappointment, picturization isnot effective at all. Resul Pookutty has done a great job as a soundengineer and its support the narrative totally.This film is directed by Ranjinikanth's daughter and Dhanush's wifeAishwarya and her direction skills are quite poor. The second half ofthe movie is totally contrasted to the first half by having hints of asuspense and surprise in the plot which is handled pathetic in thescreenplay and she tried hard to fulfill audience expectations butfailed to achieve any and also fails at the box office. The unwantedshots, inappropriate comedies and slow narrative cloud have beenavoided and stop dragging the shots. It shows the lack of experience. Ithink it's somehow true that this film is supposed to be a short filmwhich is dragged into a feature film. In general, directors shouldconcentrate more on medical and scientific subjects when their film isdealing with certain issues. Here in this film, it is not properlyscripted that how Ram getting Bipolar disorder suddenly after theirmarriage!, and also the treatment of the disorder is not properlyestablished in the script. Please concentrate more on sensitivesubjects like this. I will appreciate her directorial debut by taking aserious subject in her very first film and hope that Aishwarya willconcentrate more on her second film.This film talks about the issues based on Manic depression; Bipolaraffective disorder it is widely better known as Bipolar disorder.Bipolar disorder is a condition in which people go back and forthbetween periods of a very good or irritable mood and depression. 3 is unconventional but a crap film

Story:It is the tale of love, sorrow and commitment of a young marriedcouple.First Half:The first half of the film is breezy and decent.Sivakarthikeyanimpresses with his witty and comical one-liners. The conversationbetween Dhanush (Ram) and Prabhu (his father) is unconventional andrefreshingly different. The first half generally moves at a rapid pacemaking it a watchable one.The blossoming of love between Dhanush (Ram)and Shruti (Janani) is showcased in a natural realistic manner.Shrutilooks great in a deglamourized role. The bike ride scene is a treat towatch.The marriage scene is refreshing but is devoid of logic.An overdose of romance and "soft porn" is a highly negative factor. Itreflects a mediocre approach towards direction. It is surprising thatthe director has targeted only the youth crowd by this approach. Thefirst half ends with a bit of suspense.Second Half:The second half is where the suspense is unraveled. The introduction ofa disease is the suspense factor. It spoils the show. The conversationsbetween Dhanush and his friend Sunder Ramu regarding the same isnatural.The scenes are shot in a slow mode making it a draggingexperience for the viewers. The director's attention to detailregarding the disease is to be commended particularly the"hallucinations" aspect. There are so many over the top melodramaticmoments which could have avoided or picturised with some maturity. Thedirector's calculations to emotionally attract the audiences fall flatdue to amateurish execution. There is a commercial fight sequence addedwhich is shot in a stupid and forgettable manner.The disease aspectslows down the pace of the film. The chemistry and romance are thrownout of the picture making the film unentertaining or gripping.Performances:Dhanush impresses in parts but his performance in second half has anhangover of his previous film.Dhanush will get appreciation for hisexpression in school-boy scenes and his performance in theclimax.Shruthi has made just a minor improvement from her debut film.Her facial expressions are decent but her body language and dialoguedelivery needs a lot of improvement. Out of the two, Dhanush is theoutright winner and has given an "Above Average" performance.Sivakarthikeyan is excellent in his performance even though it is justa supporting role.Seasoned actors Prabhu and Banupriya are wasted in meaningless roles.Actress Rohini is impressive in a well-crafted role. Sunder Ramu gets a meaty role and does a pretty decent job.Screenplay:The screenplay and direction is decent in the first half but fizzlesout completely in the second half.Songs and Picturisation:"Po Nee Po" is picturised in a meaningless manner.The Kolaveri numberis picturised in an ordinary manner with pathetic choreography. On thepositive side, "Idhalil Oram" and "Kannalaga" are picturised in afantastic manner.The singers have done a pretty good job in all thesongs.Kolaveri song is a meaningless exercise considering that inprevious scene they are shown as married. The background music isexcellent. The music composer Anirudh shows promise but there is stillroom for improvement.Cinematography:The cinematography by Velraj is excellent. An example of that is the"terrace scene" where he allows the natural light to take over.Stars: 1.5 out of 5.Bottom-line: Unconventional but Below Average.

We shud have got the message from the song.. 'why this kolaveri'?

Spoilers!! After all the promos and songs i was expecting to go watch abreezy romantic flick, and i guess that is the big mistake i did. Whilewatching the movie i felt like am i the only one who feels thisterrible to sit and watch this and trust me i felt relieved when thewhole theater started to make fun of all the so called emotionalscenes. Iam not the one who dislikes movies with heavy subject, itsjust that i wonder whats the point of all that at the end of the day?Danush is dead scene one and shruti hassan cries thinking about it forthe rest of the movie! Now as a film goer why would i pay to go andwatch such a movie ? This film reminded me of siddharth's 180 which hasa similar sort of theme which also had some heavy scenes and yet insome way was a feel good movie. Anyway, I should say the direction waspretty good that too from a first timer. Acting - whats the challengehere for danush to take this role which he did far better in his veryfirst film? Almost everyone would say this has now become so monotonousfrom danush but how come the actor himself couldn't realize that iwonder! I really wish movies are made for the audience to enjoy andnothing else. If we are advised to appreciate sensible movies i wouldpolitely like to say that for that we have a LIFE of our own and thatsalready tough enough to handle, we don't want to watch that on screenfor another two and half hours as well. Like danush in the movie we arealready depressed enough.

Those in true love and short tempter Must watch!!you will definitely regret and feel heavenly in some scenes.

Fantastic movie,Mind blowing acting by Dhanush you deserve anotherOscar man you really did a good job as a depressed person no one otherthan u can do this role,his friend sundar ramu(as sendhil)and shruthihave done a good job!!There is few loopholes in this movie whichselvaraghavan would have fixed where aishwarya as a director failed butthose who says its not a good movie,psycho things its also a part ofsome depressed people's life A new different film is not alwayswelcomed in Tamil cinema.If this movie released in English,french or Italy we would have saidgreat and love it,so pity its released in Tamil that we don't allowdifferent movie and appreciate few good things in the movie,BGM wasgood and its a fantastic feel for true lovers.Kolaveri movie came outwith few loopholes this time but its really appreciated also thank youselva for introducing sundar ramu a wonderful actor.

"3" - A "Hormonic" Ride

The movie "3" was a perfect showcase of love, emotions, especiallyhormones, and was scripted with perfection... the film was so dramaticin showcasing the emotions, at times, i had deja vu of different kind!! The movie tried to show the true emotions of theprotagonist/antagonist perfectly, while watching I had the sameemotional experience as I had with 3 Idiots/ Memento /The Tunnel/Cloverfield.The film is aptly titled "3", and if the title had been otherwise itwould have been an grave injustice to the script & the character(s).The interleaving of music and act was perfectly done and there was nota single anachronic moment except "Why this Kolaveri Di", which couldhave been choreographed better.Overall it was an roller coaster "Hormonic" Ride and its worth awatch...
